Expansion packs

Talk about the development, features, and game-play of Salvation Prophecy.

Expansion packs

Are you making the game with the ability to add updates down the line? Expansion packs etc?

Looking at the lore it seems "magic" is important - is it magic or high level telepathy / science?

Will the mechs be pilotable? :)

Yes! :)

Of the four playable factions, only the Salvation faction use anything resembling magic. Their energy drain attack, and their shield are a sort of energy manipulation. The other 3 playable factions are purely based on technology.

There also is the prophecy, which the game's title refers to. I don't want to reveal too much about it - spoilers suck. ;) But I will say that your character can find some interesting powers while exploring the alien planets. These are related to the prophecy.

In the feature page for each faction, you'll notice a list of runes:

These definitely have a mystical nature to them, both in their use, and in how they are achieved.

I wish!
I did try and make them pilotable. But I just didn't have enough time for it to make it feel really cool. So I had to remove it... for now! :
Maybe pilotable mechs would be a cool thing to look into for DLC.

Exciting!

Watched the new video, looks really exciting and a nice new direction! Certainly a merging of genres.

Are the stations / dropships the same for each race (Interior / exterior wise) - did you intend to build in more bespoke differences for the races, or is that something that wasn't really necessary (As all four seem to come from a common background)

Only thing I did notice in the video (Cos I'm annoying and spot tiny things) is that the dropships fly with the legs in an "open" position and when they drop down, the legs moved to a more closed position, but in the hangar they're in an "open" position.

I cannot wait to get a hold of this. For now I reckon will have to sit here twitching until more videos!

In terms of expansion / mod support have you thought in depth about them yet? I really appreciate you answering my questions as well - I imagine you are crazy busy at the moment trying to tie things down. I did notice the runes and had thought that was purely to do with the Salvation, as they seemed the religious crazies.

Are there alien civilisations out there that we can encounter?

Ok, gonna stop rambling! Looking good and looking forwards!

Thanks! My idea was to make a sci-fi military space epic, where the focus is on a great war. Many space sims focus on trading, and I really like those games. But I wanted to do something different with Salvation Prophecy. So I skipped on trading and really put a lot of effort into the war, which meant including all the planet battle stuff.

The different factions have unique space station, fighter ship, and character models. But the station interiors and drop ships are the same. This is only because I'm a self-funded indie and I couldn't afford the extra artwork for the station interiors. If Salvation Prophecy is successful, maybe it's something I will add later, or else create a sequel with a larger art budget.

You're right about the legs, but I'm not sure I understand the critique.

That's really awesome to hear. :)

I have a lot of ideas floating around. But everything depends on how successful the game is - I need to be able to afford rent and groceries. ;)

Yes, but I gain energy from reading cool forum posts and hearing from people excited about the game!

The runes were foretold by the Salvation's prophecy. But they are an important part of the game regardless which faction you play.

Praetorian wrote:Are there alien civilisations out there that we can encounter?

The aliens are mostly killer monsters. But you also encounter some ancient beings, called the Keepers, in your pursuit of the runes.

Thanks Praetorian! I enjoy your rambling. ;)

If you made an expansion pack what would you want to add? Can you add more planets and ships?

It would depend a lot on budget. There's a lot of things I couldn't do with Salvation Prophecy because I couldn't afford the artwork for it. It's fun to think about what I could add if I had a chunk of cash for artwork. :) More ships and planets would definitely be in the list.

Glad my questions are going down well. I'm really impressed you put all this together. It's a testament to dedication! I imagine the outlay is quite daunting.

As for the critique on the dropships, sorry for not being clear: when the dropship is "landing", shouldn't the legs be splayed and when flying, they should be closed? As they are currently, when flying, the four legs are split, rather than held underneath and visa versa when its landing. Just looks like the animations are inverted at the moment.

Collating all this art together and making a cohesive game is fantastic. The story for the game: is it it your design or did you have a writer? I ask because most sci fi games go majorly towards the tech side and very rarely look at mythic aspects.

Hey Praetorian,

I don't know if it's dedication or stubbornness, but it has been a long haul. ;)

Ah, I understand what you're saying about the DropShips. They don't actually land on the surface, but rather hover above the ground to drop the troops off. The troops get teleported down to the surface, so the legs are just meant to convey some sort of mechanical change in the dropship to activate the troop disembarkment teleporting.

Yeah, I designed the story for the game. I'm a big fan of fantasy as well as sci-fi. I wanted the game to have a kind of ultimate purpose for the player to pursue, that threads through all the individual battles of the game. I found that a mystical slant worked best. It gave a reason and purpose about why the player would need to explore all these alien planets, even when there was a galaxy at war to contend with.

Simple things like adding a few variations on some of the playable characters would be a nice DLC to add to the game later. Some might balk at the idea of paying for something like that but I would gladly pay $1-$5 (depending on how much is added).

If you add a lot more artistic variation over time you could release it all at once as some sort of art pack.

I don't really care all that much though since the game is fun so far :). I will say I was slightly sad that the other races didn't have other character variations to choose from like the humans do though.

-EDIT-
I would be willing to do a bunch of texture variants for the playable characters you choose from for free as it wouldn't be hard (and could be done very quickly!). I could modify the meshes slightly too (add different heads, etc) but that would take a bit more time. I'm not sure if you would want your original artists to do that though or if you had agreements with them to not modify their work though. Just a thought! Like I said, for free! :)
